Join the fight
Welcome to the “Be a Butterfly” website. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to helping victims of domestic violence and raising awareness about this widespread issue. Our mission is to provide resources and support for those affected by domestic violence and to promote healthy relationships and communication skills to prevent domestic violence from happening in the first place while creating a safe and encouraging atmosphere for people and families who have experienced domestic abuse, fostering healing and giving them the tools they need to live happy, violence-free lives.
It is estimated that every minute there are 20 people who are abused by their intimate partners. This equates to about 10 million people in the United States each year. It is a problem that often goes unnoticed and unaddressed, but it has devastating consequences for those who experience it.what.
At “Be a Butterfly,” we believe that everyone deserves to live in a safe and healthy environment. We work tirelessly to create a network of support and resources for victims of domestic violence, and we also strive to prevent domestic violence from happening in the first place through education and advocacy. Our Vision: A society where there is no longer any need to fear or be harmed by domestic violence, where survivors are given the tools and support they require to thrive.

Our Team
Jessica Mendoza
- President
Welcome to “Be a Butterfly”. As the President of this organization, I am proud to lead a team that is dedicated to preventing domestic violence and supporting those who have experienced it. Our mission is one that is deeply personal to me, as I too have survived domestic violence. The pain and fear that comes with domestic violence is something that no one should ever have to experience. I know the impact that it can have on one’s life, and the feeling of being trapped and helpless. But I also know that there is a way out, and that hope and healing are possible. That’s why “Be a Butterfly” exists. We wanted to create a space where survivors like myself could find the support and resources needed to break free from the cycle of abuse, and rebuild their lives. And for those who have not yet experienced domestic violence, our organization is dedicated to educating and raising awareness about the warning signs of abuse, so that we can prevent it from happening in the first place. Through our work, we hope to empower survivors and remind them that they are not alone. We believe that every person deserves to be treated with respect and dignity in their relationships, and that love should never hurt. Join us in our mission to create a world free from domestic violence, and let us work together to create a brighter future for all.

“It is my pleasure to meet you all! I am very excited to represent Be A Butterfly. Domestic violence is a topic I hold very dear to me and have only recently been brave enough to acknowledge for myself. My background in life: I am Chinese-American, Son, Brother, Friend, Partner, Physician, Speaker, Educator, and Mentor. All of which has shaped my identity and as a result, my strength. Teaching is a deep-seated passion for me. I hope to make a difference through advocacy and education for victims, abusers, children, community, and the world. As I believe the responsibility of domestic violence does not lie entirely on the victim, but their community and world at large. I hope to meet you all one day and hear your story. Join us and together we can shape the world one butterfly at a time.”

I would like to take a moment to reflect on the importance of our values and the role we play in combating domestic violence.
At Be a Butterfly, we believe that education is key to preventing domestic violence. By educating individuals on the warning signs, causes, and consequences of domestic violence, we hope to empower them to make informed decisions and take action to prevent it.
It is essential to understand that the victim is never to blame. No one deserves to be subjected to violence or abuse, regardless of their gender, age, or background. It is our responsibility as a society to provide support and resources to those affected by domestic violence and to hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.
As a member of the Board of Directors of Be a Butterfly, I am committed to raising awareness and providing resources to those affected by domestic violence. Together, we can make a difference and create a world where everyone feels safe and secure.
Thank you for your continued support of Be a Butterfly and our mission to end domestic violence.

One of my all-time favorite phrases is, “Butterflies can’t see their wings, and they can’t see how truly beautiful they are, but everyone else can.” This phrase reminds me of how we, as humans, can’t always see the beauty and potential within ourselves. That’s why I feel grateful and privileged to be part of Be a Butterfly, an organization that empowers and uplifts individuals who need to see the light in themselves. I’ve always been passionate about helping others discover their inner beauty and potential, no matter what circumstances they may be facing. My ultimate objective is to help individuals who may not yet recognize the magnificence of their own wings, and inspire them to soar to new heights.
